Indonesia's Merapi volcano erupted on Saturday, erupting into the air at a height of 7 km, the Disaster Management Agency announced. This is according to the publication by the AFP news agency on Saturday, March 11, 2023.The volcano, located in the Yogyakarta Special Region of Indonesia, erupted at about 12 midnight (local time) and had a lava flow of 1.5 km, local authorities said. Residents in nearby communities are advised to stop any activity in the danger zone, keeping a distance of 3 to 7 km from the crater.
Yulianto, an official at the local checkpoint, said residents were not yet evacuated. But ash is observed to fall from the volcano about five to six times if the coverage continues to increase at a distance of more than seven kilometers. It is likely to lead to the evacuation of residents.
