Russian officials say a Russian missile strike has killed at least three people in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson as fighting erupted in the eastern Donetsk region by Russian artillery fire. Another shell hit the city of Vuhledar. This is according to the publication by the AFP news agency on Monday, January 30, 2023.
President Volodymyr Zelensky says Ukraine is facing a difficult situation in the Donetsk region and urgently needs heavy weapons, especially sophisticated weapons, just days after the allies agreed to supply combat tanks to Kiev.
"The situation is very tense," Zelensky said. Baghdad, Vollada and other parts of the Donetsk region are under constant Russian attack. Russia wants to prolong the war and weaken our forces. "So we are increasing our response force, speeding up the supply of weapons and opening up more new weapons options for Ukraine."
As many as 321 combat tanks have been promised to the West by Ukraine and will take months to reach the battlefield. Along with calls for speeding up the delivery of the tanks, Ukraine also wants US aid for F-16 fighter jets. Russia-Ukraine is expected to launch an offensive in the spring in the coming weeks.
